St. Bartolicchio's Feast day in Ustica
The festivity of San Bartolicchio (the apostle) is the island’s patron saint. This occasion is celebrated by all the islanders and it is an important date for traditional folklore enthusiasts.
It is celebrated every year on the second Sunday of September in the “Oliastrello” area of the island.
The countryside of Ustica is lit up with lights, sounds and colours and become a theatre for festivities and outdoor games, like tug of war, sack races and other field activities.
Amongst the folkloristic activities is the traditional Donkey Race – suggestive and enjoyable above all for the children. The festivities continue on through the night with an open air BBQ Party of meat, wine and music for all to be happy and enjoy each other’s company.
